The Young Farming Generation

Spring is right around the corner and I desperately need to get my lettuce, spinach and pea seeds in the ground. I’ve often dreamed about having a plot of land to garden on and live off of. That’s why I was so taken with Sunday’s NYT‘s article about a new generation of farmers—particularly in the West. Young people for the first time in ages are buying land to farm on. They’re using organic methods to raise cows and chickens to sell locally. The article came at a pertinent time because I just became aware (and obsessed) with the IFC show called Portlandia, which pokes fun at the super crunchy, liberal, bike riding residents of Portland, OR. Check out the episode “Is it Local?” below.
