Good things come to those to wait procrastinate:
Before Jack was born, I was stressing to get the nursery complete. I had the crib, dresser and bedding, but didn’t have much for the walls. I was envisioning a typographic poster of the ABCs, something modern and fresh, and not not too trendy. I spotted the adorable poster [top two images] on Petit Collage, it’s made with soy ink on recycled paper. I totally fell in love — then, I didn’t do anything about it. Fast-forward to today, nothing has been hung in the nursery, and what do ya know, Fab (again with the Fab!) has that exact poster, from Petit Collage for nearly half the price. You better believe I click click clicked and bought. That junx is mine now!
There are other cute items for a nursery like the bamboo laser-cut mobiles and typographic prints on sustainable maple.
Again, if you need an invite to Fab, grab one for yourself here. Enjoy.

Here’s wishing you a fun Halloween! Daryle and I are having a small gathering of friends over tonight. I’m cooking up a scary storm of hors d’oeuvres like Lady’s Fingers & Men’s Toes and a Rest in Peas dip from Martha Stewart. That little pumpkin above is the only one that grew from the four pumpkin plants I planted. The sacred pumpkin! Isn’t he sweeet?

Here’s the invite that I created for our gathering tonight. There’s an awesome font suite from House Industries called Monster Fonts which I used to make the invite. I was trying to make the infamous Janet Leigh scream look extra retro, with a faux-silkscreen effect and then added the classic scary-movie font next to it.
Now, back to my Devilish Eggs. Have fun today!
Jerod Gibson’s typographic, retro posters

37 Posters is a project by designer, Jerod Gibson who started a series of posters with a silhouette of an image from a movie or television show and then filled it with quotes. What a fun way to nerd-out to your favorite flicks. Check out more of Gibson’s work here.

These Blue Note inspired posters with groovy backgrounds are pretty fab too.
Love Your Bike Portsmouth

I’m a jerk for not posting this sooner. This post has only been sitting in an open tab on my computer for the last 10 days . Errr..!
Love Your Bike Portsmouth was an event for bike-enthusiasts to explore ways to improve bike design of their bikes and its appearance, mixed with an aim to regain the streets for riding. On the day of the event, there were tons of cool demos on bamboo, electric, build your own, and fixed gear bikes; information on bike locks that really work, a photo exhibition on vintage bikes, and crazy bike sculptures. Wish I was there! And who might be the genius behind the branding of this event? Why its ILoveDust, the UK creative shop that never ceases to impress me. Here, they’ve designed a suite of items including posters, swag, and a website for the Love Your Bike event. The typography is impeccable mixed images of indie rock cyclists on top of the flesh-toned poster paper. Check out the Love Your Bike Portsmouth blog to see pics from the event. I took a liking to the three dudes below.

For my DJs and vinyl nerds: Soundscreen Design has released it’s fourth edition of the Vinyl is Forever graphic. This time the graphic is designed by Justin Thomas Kay, director at FADAR magazine. In addition to hoodies, they also offer t-shirts in black or white, and tote bags. It’s a limited addition graphic printed on organic cotton (American Apparel). I’m ordering one for my special record-loving geek.

Hot off the Mac, this is one of my favorite posters that Daryle designed for his gig (tonight) at Marvin. I love so much the sixties inspired minimalist layout and the colors beige next to dusty turquoise and mild yellow type. It’s real nice! If you are in a party mood, you should definitely stop by Marvin for some toe tapping vibes.

Next up, another goodie (also designed by The D.): The DC Record Fair is this Sunday from noon to 6pm at The Black Cat. The event is sponsored by two friends: Neal Becton of Som Records (the best rare + vintage record shop in the city) and Kevin Coombe of DC Soul Recordings (an organization that catalogs DC-area funk, soul and R&B from the sixties through eighties.). Both guys are DJs too, Neville Chamberlain and Nitekrawler respectively, so the digging will be chock-full of deep, hot finds.
