Are you a Woody Allen fan? His latest film, To Rome With Love comes out this June starring my favorite Woody Allen actress, Penélope Cruz! I’m excited to see Allen’s typical intellectual love triangle with an Italian twist. There are lot’s of other recognizable people in the movie too, like Alec Baldwin; Jesse Eisenberg, the Facebook movie guy; and Ellen Page, the gal from Juno. I’m not sure if anything can top Midnight in Paris, I’ll have to wait and see.

Oh my goodness, a must watch: Nowness presents Ryan McGinley‘s short film from this year’s Pitchfork music festival that just passed last week. McGinley records his two favorite bands: Smith Western and Girls. I promise your heart will warm as you sway side-to-side at the first song called “All Die Young” by Smith Western. I just google-stalked both bands and Smith Western has a fantastic T-Rex flavor. Mmm, I plan to get both band’s mp3s. Press play, I promise you’ll love!

Here’s wishing you a fun Halloween! Daryle and I are having a small gathering of friends over tonight. I’m cooking up a scary storm of hors d’oeuvres like Lady’s Fingers & Men’s Toes and a Rest in Peas dip from Martha Stewart. That little pumpkin above is the only one that grew from the four pumpkin plants I planted. The sacred pumpkin! Isn’t he sweeet?

Here’s the invite that I created for our gathering tonight. There’s an awesome font suite from House Industries called Monster Fonts which I used to make the invite. I was trying to make the infamous Janet Leigh scream look extra retro, with a faux-silkscreen effect and then added the classic scary-movie font next to it.

Now, back to my Devilish Eggs. Have fun today!

NYTs has a great little interview with Woody Allen promoting his new movie, You’ll Meet a Tall Dark Stranger (out this coming Wednesday). The interview is interesting because Allen talks about getting older and his own mortality—relating it to the subject of his new movie.  I love it so much because you can literally hear Woody Allen saying everything you read in the interview.

I’ve been such a Woody Allen fan for all of my life; it stems from my parents. What are your favorite Woody Allen movies? Mine would have to include: Annie Hall, Hannah and her Sisters, Manhattan Murder Mystery, and Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

Sofia Coppola has written and directed a new movie starring Stephen Dorff and Elle (love that name) Fanning. The movie takes place in Los Angeles, about a single father’s relationship with his daughter. It’ll be in movie theaters starting on December 22nd.

Watch the trailer. Music by Julian Casablancas.

Like some recent films (The Bank Job, The International), this poster has a stylized design that hearkens back to some classic late 60s/early 70s poster designs. The striking two-color scheme and the logotype with the silhouette are some very Saul Bass-inspired moves.

[Thanks, Daryle!]

One thing I do know, is that I will love Serge Gainsbourg until the day I die. There is a new film out about the history of Serge’s salacious life directed by Joann Sfar, starring the late Lucy Gordon as Jane Birkin and Laetitia Casta as Brigitte Bardot. As an admirer of all things FrenchGauloise included, I’m particularly excited to see Vie Héroïque. It’s US release date is still TBD.

Scary, funny and most excellent! The Nic Cage As Everyone blog was “founded on the belief that everything in life would be better with a little more Nic Cage, the most unique and versatile actor of his generation.” Can you really argue with that?

For the first time over the holidays, I watched the Pixar movie Up. It is the sweetest, most tender movie I’ve seen in a long time. Fact is, I cried my eyes out. I won’t give anything away, but just have to note it such a special story about love and friendship; and the visual of the house floating away with balloons attached is incredible—you have to see it. Above is a video called ‘Upular‘, composed by electronic music artist, Pogo who used chords, bass notes and vocal samples from Up. It’s a lot of fun and brings back sweet memories from the movie.

the brothers bloomI am so psyched to see this movie. Personally I can’t think of a finer cast. Adrien Brody? Hot. Mark Ruffalo? Smoking. I promise this blog will not turn into a list of my latest hearthrobs, but I just have to give a shout to those two guys. Not to mention the lovelier than thou Rachel Weisz.

Anyone care to join me on a movie date?
